Magic Seeds

“”Fee-fi-fo-fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman.””
From English Fairy Tales (1918) by Flora Annie Steel,
illustrated by Arthur Rackham

They really do evoke giants—even spiritual ones—in the Marketplace

So we all know the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. Let me let this article from Wikipedia remind you lest you’ve forgotten it.

Jack, a poor country boy, trades the family cow for a handful of magic beans, which grow into a massive, towering beanstalk reaching up into the clouds. Jack climbs the beanstalk and finds himself in the castle of an unfriendly giant. The giant senses Jack’s presence and cries,

Fee-fi-fo-fum!

I smell the blood of an Englishman. Be he alive, or be he dead, I’ll grind his bones to make my bread.[8]

Outwitting the giant, Jack is able to retrieve many goods once stolen from his family, including a bag of gold, an enchanted goose that lays golden eggs and a magic golden harp that plays and sings by itself. Jack then escapes by chopping down the beanstalk. The giant, who is pursuing him, falls to his death, and Jack and his family prosper.

Jack and the Beanstalk – Wikipedia

Jack found “magic beans” that were actually for him, “magic seeds.” He planted them and voila, a giant appeared—in this case an
unfriendly one. A battle ensues, and Jack wins the day, slaying the giant and enabling his family to prosper. And presumably, they all lived happily ever after.

Well, my Marketplace friends, you have access to “magic seeds!” And they can enable you to become more of a spiritual “giant” (or as we like to say, Holy Spirit Hot Spots), and to slay a few giants as well. Let me explain what these seeds are and how you can use them In our last blog we talked about how breaking the prayer barrier—doing more than just praying at yellow lights during the day but engaging in daily, soaking, focused, and regular prayer on a daily basis—could help you break the “I don’t have time to pray more” prayer barrier so many people get trapped in, and could help make you a more impactful (and radiant) spiritual center in the workplace.

We’ll consider taking this analogy a bit further. You and I are made of the “dust of the ground,” the Scripture says (Genesis 2:7).
And dust needs regular good soakings (which prayer provides) to not become hardened and cracked and useless for bearing fruit.
But “soaked” soil needs something more. It needs the right seeds—not necessarily “magic” seeds, the miraculous seeds
Scripture says God’s word is—to go to the next step and actually bear fruit. Let’s read how describes it.

1 Peter 1:23 New International Version

23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

Now I know this is talking of the “word” of God about the “Word” of God, Jesus, planted in you and bearing fruit. But consider what we’ve got at our fingertips (or actually, on a phone app nowadays) with the Scripture. We have access to the “magic” or better yet
“miraculous” word of God. And if we couple our daily soaking of prayer with the imperishable seeds of God’s living and enduring word, what fruit might be borne in our lives?

God wants to see that fruit born, and the marketplace needs to see it borne. When it is, an everyday fulfillment of this prophecy will take place.

Isaiah 41:18 New International Version

18 I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs.

The living word of God, empowered by the Living Word of God, turns spiritual deserts into gardens of delight. And I sometimes think we forget who we are, and the power we have to make a difference wherever God has planted us in the Marketplace.

When we submit ourselves to a good spiritual soaking daily, and then couple it with the planting of God’s “magic (ok, miraculous) seeds” in our minds, amazing fruit is born in often spiritually barren environments. By simply planting such seed in a prayer-soaked mind, miraculous results are produced.

People will know they are blessed by your presence. And people’s spiritual thirsts are awakened and their desire for knowing how they can go from being “parched” and dry spiritually but alive with the life of Christ, simply present in their midst by someone like
you who:

1. Will commit to soaking prayer in 2024.
2. And the planting of the word of God deeply into your life.

Well, it can turn your Marketplace “deserts” into pools of water and parched ground into springs.

On this blog next year will discuss what that fruit might look like. And guess what—it’s way more than just being someone who themselves simply bear the “fruits of the spirit”

publically (Galatians 5:22). It may even enable you to spread active recipients of the Spirit of God and expand God’s kingdom in your Marketplace midst.
